Series History: OSU Looks for Eighth-Straight Win Against West Virginia
November 25, 2022 | Cowboy Football
The Oklahoma State Cowboy football team closes out the regular season this weekend when the West Virginia Mountaineers travel to Stillwater, with 26 Cowboys being recognized and honored as part of OSU's Senior Day.Â
Saturday's game marks the 14th meeting of the two teams in a series dating to 1928. 2022 also marks the 11th straight season the teams have met, starting when WVU joined the Big 12 for the 2012 season. The Cowboys own a 9-4 all-time series advantage, including a 4-2 edge at Boone Pickens Stadium. The Cowboys have won seven consecutive games against the Mountaineers, after WVU won four of the first six series matchups. The seven-game stretch is the longest win streak for either team in the series.Â
OSU won last year's matchup in Morgantown, 24-3, behind an outstanding defensive effort. Oklahoma State limited West Virginia to 133 total yards and only 17 rushing yards. Linebackers Devin Harper and Malcolm Rodriguez spearheaded OSU's defense with 17 combined tackles. Harper and defensive end Brock Martin combined for four of OSU's eight sacks on the day, picking up two apiece.Â
West Virginia enters Saturday's game 4-7 overall and 2-6 in conference play, while Oklahoma State is 7-4 overall and 4-4 in Big 12 play. Mike Gundy is 8-2 in his career against WVU, while West Virginia coach Neal Brown is 0-3 against the Cowboys. The game will kick off at 11 a.m. CT and will be televised on ESPN2.
