Cowboys Talk Bouncing Back Against Iowa State and Bedlam Preparations
November 15, 2022 | Cowboy Football
Defensive End Kody WalterscheidÂ
On the win against Iowa State:Â
"It really felt good to bounce back, for sure. Those losses were heartbreaking for everyone so to come back and do that, it was awesome."Â
Â
On what stands out about Oklahoma's offense:Â
"We have to stop the run, stop the counter, they're just a good football team."Â
Â
On how they prepared for the Iowa State game:Â
"Last week we really focused on practicing with effort, technique and finish. That's what we did and that's what he grades us on. I think it showed with our efforts in the game.Â
Â
On if Bedlam feels different this year:Â
"There might be even more energy this year since they are moving to the SEC. It's going to be one of the last times we play them in the near future."Â
Â
On the Bedlam rivalry:Â
"We don't like those guys and they don't like us; there's still 100% a rivalry."Â
Â
Offensive Lineman Joe MichalskiÂ
On Oklahoma's defense:Â
"OU is good every year. They're good up front and they do a good job with their scheme. We just need to keep preparing like we prepare for every game and prepare like it's the championship."Â
Â
On OSU's offensive linemen:Â
"It's probably one of the closest-knit groups on the team. There's not a lot of stats in the book for o-lineman, you really only get mentioned on TV when you miss a block. You just need to have each other's backs and be able to tell each other when you do a good job because it's not too often you get praised. I appreciate all my guys, what they've been doing this year, and how they keep improving each week."Â
Â
On the Bedlam rivalry:Â
"I love it, I always love rivalry games. In high school I loved rivalries, it's just fun. It amps everybody up and everyone plays at a higher level. It just means more for a rivalry and every game means a lot. The mystique for it, everyone is just hyped."Â
Defensive Lineman Brock MartinÂ
On the emotions heading into Bedlam
"I mean it's not really that much for me. It probably is for some of the young guys who didn't get recruited by Oklahoma. Some guys might take that as extra motivation this Saturday, but like you said this is my fifth time playing Oklahoma. We just got to prepare the same and get ready to play another game."Â
Â
On what he tells the younger guys heading into the game:Â
"At this point, they should know how it goes. We've been to Baylor, we've been to Kansas, Kansas State, TCU so at this point they should know how it's going to go when we get down there."Â
Â
On what it's like winning Bedlam:Â
"It feels good waking up after every win. I think OU is a big game, it's always a big game, in-state rivalry. It feels good to be able to wake up with a win on Sunday morning's always, I think it'd feel real good knowing OU has to win their last game of the season to be bowl-eligible, so going into Saturday we know what's going on with that."Â
Â
On what the game plan is against Oklahoma's offense:Â
"Stop the run. That's the plan, that's the goal. They have good wide receivers as well, but I think if we can stop the run and make them have to throw the ball, they'll end up making some mistakes and we'll hopefully be able to capitalize and take advantage of some opportunities there."Â
Â
Wide Receiver Brennan PresleyÂ
On if it feels different knowing this is one of the last Bedlam football games:
"I think it does personally for me because I grew up with this rivalry. Having played in it and now seeing what it's come to, being in this phase where it's coming to an end, being in the position of where I can affect the outcome, it just makes it that much more special. But, the game is always going to be a special game no matter who's playing, where we're playing at, anything like that. We could play in a backyard, and it would still be the same emotional effect, it's always going to be Bedlam."
Â
On how he remembers his kickoff return in last year's Bedlam victory:Â
"I really don't think about it. Sometimes, I even forget that I made it. I don't want to get in that head space of thinking about the past, I just want to focus on the present, the now. Everything that I did last game, and last year, is not going to help us this year. We got to go out there and make our new plays, new statements and everything like that. We just got to come out there and attack it. "
Â
On cornerback Jabbar Muhammad's development this year:Â
"I've seen it firsthand since I'm his friend and we work out together so much in the offseason. The way he attacks the game whether he's in season or out of season is actually insane. He plays with the same intensity, same focus when he's out there. He's friends with so many of the people, the 'backs' and stuff like that so they all play together, the continuity they play with. I think he does a great job of bringing that intensity and letting it filter throughout everybody else."Â
Â
On what he's told his younger brother, Braylin Presley, about Bedlam:
"I think he knows what it means. I want to let him experience everything for his own that he's going to get there. My freshman year, we went there first, so his freshman year he'll go in there first, so just to soak in all the rivalry stuff, the crowd, the fans, I want him to experience all that on his own."
