Cowboys Discuss Preparation for Kansas With Media
November 01, 2022 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER - Members of the Oklahoma State football team met with members of the media after practice Tuesday to discuss overcoming Saturday's loss to Kansas State and their preparations for Kansas. Here is some of what they had to say:
Defensive End Brock Martin
On Tuesday's practice:
"We came out ready to practice today, definitely a lot better than how we came out last Tuesday. We're going to build on that as we get ready for Saturday."
On Kansas:
"They're a good ball club. That coach really has them going in the right direction. They're trying to become bowl eligible and they're going to have to beat us or someone else down the road, I'd rather it not be us."
On what he's seen from the Kansas offense:
"They got some wide receivers who can go. The running back is a good player and the offensive line is a strong unit. The line works together, moves together and do a lot of position blocking well. It's going to be a challenge."
Running Back Jaden Nixon
On getting his first career start:
"It felt good. Being able to get out there and showcase what I can do with the coaches and everyone trusting me enough to be put in that position. That's a big-time role being a running back out there on the field because you're expected to get the job done. Having that opportunity to go out there and play with confidence felt great."
On the Kansas defense:
"They're going to be physical. They're always going to have some fight in them, especially going to their place it's going to be a crazy atmosphere. Like I said, we're refocusing and getting ready to play this week. It's going to be a fight so it's exciting and I'm ready."
On needing to get the running game going:
"Most definitely. This year you can tell that's been one of our weakest points. Not having that running game, especially as a running back has been tough because that's our job. I have confidence in our offensive line that we'll get it going and us backs having the vision to see where to go. Coach Dunn, Wozniak and Gundy are all making sure that we're going to get it going."
Cornerback Korie Black
On moving forward to Kansas:
"It's been good for us, mentally. Just to get that focus and get us back ready for Saturday. We just got to work hard and we'll be good."
On Cam Smith jumping into an expanded role:
"That's big, and everybody's really proud of him. He just came in and stepped up when we needed him really. He just came in and he's been real good, really helpful for us. He does everything well."
On the benefits of a physical practice week:
"I think it's good for the whole team to be able to go against each other, maybe not so much just against the scout team, but against everybody. We do certain situations against the offense, so I think that helps us (both mentally and physically)."
Offensive Tackle Caleb Etienne
On bouncing back to have a good week of practice:
"We just have to raise our level up this week. Come out and practice harder, put the work in, and just not feel satisfied with where we've been at, and keep getting better and better every day. The only thing is beat (Kansas) this week. That's our main focus, main goal."
On preparing for Kansas:
"Kansas has a good defense and a pretty good team. We feel like we're going to be able to get the ball moving down the field as long as we fix the little mistakes that we had last week. It'll be a good game for sure."
On working to improve the running game:
"We try to get it going as much as we can. We just have to keep going and have to clean up the little things, and hopefully it'll work in our favor this week."
