From Playground to Playing Field: Brennan Presley Shedding Knowledge on Field, on Sidelines for Younger Brother, Braylin
October 28, 2022 | Cowboy Football
From the playground to the playing field, Brennan Presley has always been a mentor.
Â
Presley, a junior wide receiver for the Cowboys, has made his mark within the program. As the 2019 Oklahoma Gatorade Player of the Year out of Bixby, Oklahoma, he took his talents west to play for Mike Gundy and the Pokes in Stillwater. In 31 career games with the Cowboys, the Tulsa-native has been an all-purpose weapon with 1,157 receiving yards, 10 receiving touchdowns, 870 return yards and one kick return touchdown.
Â
While Presley is often on the receiving end of on-the-field activity, his role on the sidelines also carries some significance. In particular, in the mentorship of his younger brother, Braylin.
Â
Braylin, a freshman wide receiver for the Cowboys, followed a similar path to his older brother through his football career. Playing at Bixby, the 5-foot-8 receiver tallied 1,105 rushing yards, 665 receiving yards, 20 rushing touchdowns and seven receiving touchdowns en route to 2021 Oklahoma Gatorade Player of the Year honors. Ranked as a four-star prospect by ESPN and 247Sports, he committed to Oklahoma State over multiple Power 5 programs.
Â
Now, with Braylin reuniting with his older brother, Brennan is back to handing out tips.
Â
"It is really cool [that Braylin is in Stillwater.]," Brennan said. "I get to teach him some stuff. I get to watch him grow just like you do when you're younger."
Â
As Brennan and Braylin have progressed with the ninth-ranked Cowboys this season, Brennan has seen his younger brother prosper. Specifically, he's seen Braylin's confidence emerge.
Â
"I can see that he is growing [as a player,]" Brennan said. "He's not dwelling too much on his mistakes. The ball that he dropped [last week], if that was me my freshman year, I would've been like, 'Oh my gosh, I could've had this.' But he came off the sideline and was good. He never wavers with his confidence. That's a good thing about this freshman group. Their confidence is through the roof. It's not arrogance. It's not cockiness. It's just confidence that they trust in themselves enough to know what they can do. That's the biggest that has helped him – make mistakes, but be able to keep ascending."
With both Presley brothers logging a reception in a conference game last week, they'll face the No. 22 ranked Kansas State Wildcats armed with hot hands. As Saturday's matchup in Manhattan, Kansas, calls for temperatures in the low-60s, the Presley's won't just be on the sidelines. They'll be in the stands.
Â
"My family has been to every game this year so far.," Brennan said. "Some games, I'm telling them, 'you don't need to go,' because they are seated where the lights are. Might as well just stay home out of the cold and the heat. But they want to come and support every single game."
Â
Kickoff between the No. 9 ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys and No. 22 ranked Kansas State Wildcats is slated for 2:30 p.m. CT on Saturday in Manhattan.
