Cowboys Talk Homecoming Win, Kansas State Matchup
October 25, 2022 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER - Coming off of a 41-34 homecoming win over No. 20 Texas, Oklahoma State re-entered the top 10 in the AP Top 25 and the coaches poll. Select Cowboys met with members of the media ahead of their upcoming matchup with No. 22 Kansas State, which will be the third consecutive ranked opponent OSU will face. Here is some of what the Cowboys had to say about their win over Texas and their preparations for Kansas State:
Defensive Tackle Collin ClayÂ
On starting his first game with OSU:Â
"It felt great. It's been a long journey for me, and I can only thank the organization, the coaches and the trainers for putting me in a position to get back to being healthy."Â
Â
On recovering from two ACL tears:Â
"It was hard having to trust everybody and believing I was going to get back to being healthy because I started doubting if I was going to be able to play ever again. It was a hard decision to get the second ACL surgery and be able to come back and play but coach Rob Glass just told me to keep fighting. I trusted and believed everyone who was talking to me."Â
Â
On the defense holding Texas to only a field goal in the second half:Â
"We were all calm. We don't want to argue with each other. We just stayed calm and told each other 'The game wasn't over; we still got another half to play.' We made the corrections that we needed to make. As long as we're all on the same page, that's all that matters."Â
Â
Offensive Lineman Taylor MiterkoÂ
On limiting penalties:Â
"It's something we talk about every day. That's our main concept: discipline and toughness. We stressed that all throughout the offseason, all throughout summer and fall camp. If we have penalties in practice, we're going to pay for those penalties in practice. That's one thing we do to train ourselves to eliminate those and play as clean of football as we can."Â
Â
On facing Kansas State:Â
"They're a really tough team. They instill the same concepts that are instilled in us. Being tough and playing disciplined football. They've got a good thing going over there. They've had many years where they're good at football. I think they are similar to us. The main thing out of this game is who's tougher and more disciplined. That's what we have to focus on this week."Â
Â
On depth on the offensive line:Â
"With the lack of depth we had throughout spring ball and all the other times we've been short, we've all learned to deal with it and take it in stride. We can't be affected when one guy goes down, whoever's out there. Whatever five guys out there at whatever position they're at, they got to be able to play. We've got guys who have been trained at every position. Everybody's pretty versatile and everybody can play every position. If something were to happen, we take it in stride and keep moving forward."Â
Wide Receiver Brennan Presley
On the importance of special teams against Kansas State:
"They're a disciplined and tough team just like us. They're very sound in what they do, especially on special teams. People don't realize special teams is where the hidden yards and all that stuff is found. That can be a dictator with a game and the end result. I think going in we have to have to have our thinking cap on and we just have to go out there and play hard."
Â
On Stephon Johnson Jr.:
"I mean his confidence is through the roof and I think that's the biggest thing as a freshman. Of course, you're competent, but I think most freshman wouldn't be able to grasp the stage and stuff like he did."
Â
Jabbar Muhammad
On Jason Taylor's importance to the secondary:
Oh, it's really important. Everybody knows his role. He's the leader. So, as far as I see, we go as far as he goes, and he knows that so probably the biggest possible.
