Sanders, Taylor Earn Big 12 Weekly Honors

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State quarterback Spencer Sanders and safety Jason Taylor II earned honors from the Big 12 on Monday for their performances in OSU's 41-34 win over No. 20 Texas on Saturday. Sanders was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, while Taylor was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week.
Sanders accounted for 434 yards of total offense and two touchdowns in the come-from-behind win against the Longhorns. It was his highest single-game total offense against a Power Five opponent this season and his second-best total in any game this year. Sanders completed 34 of 57 passing attempts, which tied a career high in completions, set a career high in passing attempts and is tied for the fourth most attempts in a single game in program history. His 391 passing yards marked his seventh 300-yard passing game of his career that moved him into a tie for third in school history with Taylor Cornelius for 300-yard passing games.
The senior play caller now leads the Big 12 and ranks among the top 20 players in the FBS in total offense (No. 7), points responsible for (No. 7) and passing yards per game (No. 16). Sanders was also recognized on the Davey O'Brien Great 8 list this week.
Taylor earned the defensive honor after leading the Cowboys with nine total tackles, all being solo stops, and had a career high two interceptions. He is the first Cowboy to have multiple interceptions in a game since Kolby Harvell-Peel on Nov. 16, 2019. Taylor's first interception came on the opening drive of the game to set up an OSU field goal. The second came on a 4th-down play with 1:23 remaining in the game to seal OSU's win. Taylor now leads the Big 12 and ranks among the top 20 FBS players in solo tackles, passes defended and interceptions.
The recognitions mark OSU's eighth and ninth conference player of the week honors for the Cowboys this season. It is the second time this season Sanders and Taylor have earned weekly honors and the third career weekly honor for Taylor and fourth career honor for Sanders.
The Cowboys will travel to Manhattan to face their third consecutive ranked opponent in No. 22 Kansas State. The game is set to kick off at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday from Bill Snyder Family Stadium and will be televised on FOX.
