Cowboy Golf Impresses On Day One At Big 12 Match Play

HOCKLEY, Texas – Oklahoma State's men's golf team rolled to a morning victory and led its afternoon match before play was stopped on the first day of action at the Big 12 Match Play Tournament on Monday at Houston Oaks.
The third-seeded Cowboys opened the day with a 5-1 victory over No. 6 seed Baylor at the par-71, 7,007-yard layout. OSU closed out its day with a tilt against seventh-seeded Kansas, which was halted due to darkness with the Cowboys leading four of the six matches.
Against the Bears, junior Jonas Baumgartner tallied a 4-and-3 victory over Trey Bosco in the lead match and was followed by fifth year Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen, who tallied a 4-and-2 win over Tyler Isenhart.
Junior Bo JIn provided the Cowboys' third point with a 2-and-1 triumph over Jonas Appel, while freshman John Wild got on the board with a 1-up win over Zach Heffernan. Senior Hazen Newman provided OSU's fifth point with a 3-and-2 win over Luke Dossey.
Senior Dillon Stewart fell, 3 and 2, in his matchup with Johnny Keefer.
During the afternoon session against the Jayhawks, Wild and Jin posted OSU's first two points with 4-and-3 victories over William Duquette and Sion Audrain, respectively.
Neergaard-Petersen found himself with a 1-up lead with four to play in his match with Cecil Belisle. Stewart held a 1-up lead with three to play in his match against Davis Cooper as well.
Baumgartner and Newman were deadlocked in their matches against Will King and Gunner Broin, respectively.
Three Cowboys are competing individually at the TPC Colorado at Heron Lakes. Fifth Year Leo Oyo led the way for the trio, sharing eighth place with a 72, while sophomore Jordan Wilson's 73 tied him for 12th place. Senior Rayhan Thomas finished the day tied for 20th with a 74.
