Brown Earns Back-to-Back Big 12 Weekly Honors
October 17, 2022 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State kicker Tanner Brown was named Co-Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance Saturday against TCU. It marks the second consecutive week he's earned the honor and the fourth consecutive game that a Cowboy has earned the conference special teams recognition.
Brown, who went four-for-four on field goal attempts for the second straight week with a career-long of 52 yards, is on an impressive run and is making an early case for the 2022 Lou Groza Award.
He ranks No. 1 in the FBS in kicker scoring with 11.0 points per game, No. 2 in the FBS with 2.0 made field goals per game and No. 4 in the FBS in scoring among all positions.
Brown is the only FBS player who has attempted more than 40 total place kicks this season without a miss, and he is one of just three who has attempted at least 12 field goals without a miss. Three of his kicks have come from more than 40 yards out - including a long of 52 yards that he hit in overtime on the road against a top-15 team in front of a sellout crowd - and six of the 12 have come from at least 34 yards away.
He's also made eight total fields over the past two games to become just the third kicker in school history to make eight in a two-game stretch, joining three-time All-American Quinn Sharp, who made eight in 2012 against TCU and Kansas State, and three-time All-Big Eight pick Larry Roach, who made eight in 1982 against Missouri and Oklahoma.
If that isn't impressive enough, he also has the nation's longest active streak of consecutive field goals made with 15, which is the fifth-longest in OSU history, and he has made all 66 of his career PAT attempts.
This season's numbers are continuing an impressive career for Brown, as he was also 17-for-21 on field goal attempts in 2021 and earned JUCO All-America honors earlier in his career.
Brown's recognition this week marks OSU's seventh conference player of the week honor for the Cowboys this season, as well as the third career weekly honor for Brown.
Oklahoma State returns to action Saturday for "America's Greatest Homecoming," facing No. 20 Texas at 2:30 p.m. CT at Boone Pickens Stadium. The game officially sold out in September, but limited tickets are still available for OSU's final two home games against Iowa State (November 12) and West Virginia (November 26). Those still looking for tickets to the Homecoming game against Texas can visit StubHub, OSU's official third-party resale partner.
