Cowgirl Soccer Gets Back To Winning Ways

STILLWATERÂ - Oklahoma State returned to the win column Friday night with a 3-0 victory over Omaha at Neal Patterson Stadium.

With the win, the Cowgirls improved to 4-3-1 on the season and snapped Omaha's four-game unbeaten streak as the Mavericks fell to 3-3-2.

OSU's three goals was its highest output of the season, and the Cowgirls outshot Omaha 20-6 in the match, with 10 of OSU's shots on goal. The three scores on the night came from Grace Yochum, Olyvia Dowell and Samiah Phiri.

Yochum put OSU on the board first in the 41st minute. Dowell sent the ball into the box from the right side, and Hannah Chance deflect to ball towards Yochum, who slid in with her right foot and found the near post.

The Cowgirls took the 1-0 lead into the intermission before doubling their lead in the 57th minute off the foot of Dowell. This time, Phiri sent the ball to Gabriella Coleman deep on the left side. Coleman then found Dowell for a 15-yard score from straightaway, with her shot just over UNO goalie Mia Reedtz Rehde Olesen's leaping save attempt.

OSU's final goal of the night came in the 82nd minute. Alex Morris passed to Dowell about 30 yards from the goal. Dowell controlled the ball off her chest and left a perfect pass for a strike from Phiri, with the freshman's shot going through Reedtz Rehde Olesen's hands and into the back of the net.

Yochum's first-half goal saw her continue to climb up the Cowgirls' all-time scoring chart. It marked her team-leading fourth goal of the season and 31st of her illustrious career, moving her into a tie for fourth on OSU's career list. She is now four goals shy of tying Yolanda Odenyo and Jolene Schweitzer for the most in program history.

The goals by Dowell and Phiri were the first of the season for both. The Cowgirls also recorded six assists from five different players, with Dowell tallying two and Chance, Coleman, Phiri and Morris each logging one.

Goalkeeper Evie Vitali posted her fourth shutout of the season in the win, finishing the night with two saves.

The Cowgirls are back in action Sunday at 1 p.m. against Weber State at Neal Patterson Stadium in their final contest before beginning of Big 12 Conference play next week.
