Hutton Named to Ray Guy Award Preseason Watch List
July 28, 2021 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State punter Tom Hutton is one of 51 players on the Ray Guy Award Preseason Watch List, announced Tuesday by the Augusta Sports Council.
Hutton is one of five punters from the Big 12 who was included on the list for the award, which is annually awarded to the nation's best at the punter position.
A junior, Hutton has handled punting duties for the Cowboys over the last two seasons. A 2019 honorable mention All-Big 12 selection by the league's coaches, the Australian native has made it consistently difficult for opponents to return his punts. Oklahoma State's punt return defense led the Big 12 and was among the FBS leaders in 2020, allowing only 1.5 yards per punt return.
The preseason watch list for the Ray Guy Award was compiled by the Augusta Sports Council based on the 2021 Ray Guy Award Semifinalist List, the top ten NCAA Punters from 2020, the 2020 All-Conference teams, the 2020 All-American Teams, the 2021 pre-season All-Conference Teams and punters on the 2020 watchlist. Candidates can be added to the list through October, when the field will be narrowed to 10 semifinalists. A national body of media members and previous Ray Guy Award winners will vote for the top three finalists, which will be announced on Nov. 23.
The recipient will be announced at The Home Depot College Football Awards with the banquet being held in Augusta, Georgia, on Feb. 2, 2022.
The Cowboys are scheduled to open the 2021 season on September 4, facing Missouri State at 6 p.m. CT at Boone Pickens Stadium. Fans can purchase 2021 Cowboy football season tickets by visiting okstate.com/tickets or by calling or texting 877-ALL-4-OSU.
