Viktor Hovland Continues To Make History With European Win

Munich, Germany — Viktor Hovland continued to make history on Sunday, becoming the first Norwegian to win a European Tour event, with his two-shot victory at the BMW International Open at Golfclub München Eichenried.
Hovland closed with a 2-under 70 to finish at 19-under 269 and two shots clear of Martin Kaymer.
The victory came in just his 17th start on the Tour and added to the historic open to his career. In 2018, Hovland became the first Norwegian to win the U.S. Amateur and also became the first player from Norway to compete at The Masters (2019).
Additionally, he became the first Norwegian to win on PGA Tour, claiming the 2020 Puerto Rico Open title. He added his second win at the Mayakoba Golf Classic last December.
On Sunday, Hovland entered the final round with a three-shot lead after firing a 64 on Saturday. However, Kaymer pulled even after posting a closing 64 of his own. The former Cowboy All-American would use birdies at the 13th and 16th to regain a two-shot cushion.
After a bogey at the 17th cut the margin in half, Hovland carded a birdie at the par-5 closing hole to seal the victory.
Previous winners of the tournament include Henrik Stenson, Ernie Els, Danny Willett, Kaymer and John Daly.
