Cowgirls Open Stillwater Regional with Run-Rule Victory

STILLWATER — The Oklahoma State softball team improved to 43-9 on the season with a 10-0 run-rule victory against the Campbell Camels to open the NCAA Stillwater Regional on Friday.
 
Left-hander Kelly Maxwell got the start in the circle for the Cowgirls, pitching 4.1 innings in the victory. In her 15thvictory of the season, Maxwell recorded three strikeouts and allowed just two hits on the day.
 
Logan Simunek came on in relief and pitched the final 0.2 innings of the game and striking out one, securing the opening game of the NCAA Stillwater Regional.
 
Kiley Naomi (2-for-2, RBI, BB) started the game off with a leadoff home run to left center field to ignite the OSU offense. The Cowgirls continued the momentum and scored four runs in the first inning.
 
Oklahoma State scored in every inning, amassing 10 runs on 11 hits against the Camels.
 
Sydney Pennington (2-for-2, 4 RBI) and Hayley Busby (2-for-3, run scored) each had multiple-hit games. Pennington hit her 11th home run of the season, which tied her for the Oklahoma State career home run record with 35.
 
Karli Petty (1-for-3, 2 RBI) launched her seventh home run of the season in the win.
 
The Cowgirls will be back in action tomorrow at 1 p.m. CT against the winner of the Mississippi State and Boston U matchup.
