NWCA Scholar All-Americans
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State wrestlers Daton Fix and Austin Harris were recognized as Scholar All-Americans by the National Wrestling Coaches Association on Thursday.
Â
Both wrestlers are being recognized by the NWCA as Scholar All-Americans for the first time. Harris (Sports and Coaching Science) and Fix (University Studies) were also named to the 2021 Academic All-Big 12 team this season as Harris earned first team recognition, while Fix was named to the second team for the second time during his tenure at Oklahoma State.
Â
The system for the NWCA's academic awards includes grade point averages for the 10 wrestlers that competed in their NCAA Tournament conference qualifier. If teams had less than 10 entries for their qualifier, then they were allowed to fill those spots with wrestlers who competed in at least one varsity dual during the season. The individual All-Academic Team has qualifying standards based on grade point average and season record/accomplishments.
Â
This year's individual Scholar All-America teams featured 191 individuals representing 59 institutions. The list also included 126 NCAA National qualifiers, 37 All-Americans, five finalists and two NCAA champions.
Â
"It's my honor on behalf of the NWCA and our Board of Directors to recognize this outstanding list of team and individual award winners," said NWCA Executive Director Mike Moyer. "These athletes had to navigate a season full of unknowns and the fact they were able to continue to excel in the classroom is a testament to the attack mentality that wrestlers bring to every aspect of their lives."
