Spring Preview: Safeties
April 08, 2021 | Cowboy Football
Safety may be the most well-stocked position group on the roster and has been for some time. Kolby Harvell-Peel, Tre Sterling and Tanner McCalister are all senior, multiple-year starters who have proven they can make highlight-reel plays.
The trio has combined for 59 starts, 396 tackles, 10 interceptions, 39 pass breakups and 35.5 tackles for loss over the past three years. That kind of production and familiarity should make the secondary a strong suit for the Cowboys.
Beyond those three, Jason Taylor II proved his big-play ability with two touchdown returns in 2020, Thomas Harper held his own in significant playing time last year and several others have shown their value on special teams, including Kanion Williams, Sean Michael Flanagan, and Gabe Lemons.
Nick Session comes out of redshirt for 2021, and OSU adds newcomers Ty Williams out of high school and transfer Trey Rucker for the spring.
