STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State softball team improved to 28-5 (4-1 Big 12) on the year with a 4-1 victory against the Iowa State Cyclones (23-10, 0-5).
Left-handed pitcher Kelly Maxwell (11-1, 1.16 ERA) got the start in the circle for Oklahoma State, pitching 4.2 innings and allowing just one earned run. Maxwell struck out five Cyclones in her 11th victory this season.
Logan Simunek came on in relief in the fifth inning. Simunek pitched 2.1 shutout innings to record her fourth save of the season and lowered her ERA to 2.15.
Offensively, returning All-American Alysen Febrey (2-for-3, RBI) led the way for the Cowgirls. Febrey improved her season batting average to .436 with her two-hit night.
Sydney Pennington (1-for-2, 2 RBI, BB) came up clutch for the Cowgirls with a two-RBI double in the third inning to give the Cowgirls some insurance runs and a four-run lead.
The Cowgirls and Cyclones will close out their three-game series tomorrow at noon CT in Cowgirl Stadium.
