Cowboys Second After Day One In Arizona

PHOENIX – Oklahoma State's men's golf team fired a 26-under total of 542 during the first day of action at the Thunderbird Collegiate on Friday to stand alone in second place at Papago Golf Course.
Play was suspended due to darkness with three teams and all of the players competing individually still on the course.
The third-ranked Cowboys opened with an 18-under 266 to lead by four after the morning round at the par-71, 7,319-yard layout. TCU fired a 20-under 264 during its second round to vault seven spots up the board and into first place at 538. Utah stands in third place at 544.
Utah's Blake Tomlinson posted an 11-under total of 131 to lead the individual race by a stroke.
The Cowboys finished the day with a pair of players inside the top 10.
Sophomore Eugenio Chacarra fired a pair of 67s to stand at 134 and tied for fifth place, while junior Austin Eckroat followed an opening 68 with a 67 to come in a stroke back at 135 and tied for ninth place.
Aman Gupta nearly matched the school's single-round scoring record in his first round. The sophomore posted a 63, which was one shot off the school mark. Gupta opened with an eagle at the par-5 first before adding a birdie at the third. He would go on to post birdies at the fifth, sixth and seventh to turn in 6-under 30. He would move to 8-under for the round with birdies at the 11th and 12th before carding his lone bogey at the 13th. He would bounce back with a birdie at the 15th.
Gupta carded a 73 during his afternoon round to stand at 136, tying him for 13th place.
Freshman Bo Jin posted rounds of 68 and 69 to come in tied for 18th place at 137, while classmate Jonas Baumgartner signed for rounds of 69 and 73. His 142 total tied him for 49th place.
A trio of Cowboys are competing individually at the event. Brian Stark fired an opening 64 and was 1-under with two holes remaining in his second round. Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen posted a 70 and was 3-under with two holes remaining when play was called. Hazen Newman carded a 69 and was even par through 15 holes during round two.
