Cowgirl Equestrian Comes Up Short In NCEA Semifinal

WACO, TEXAS - Oklahoma State's second-ranked equestrian team saw its season draw to a close after being defeated by No. 3 Georgia, 10-6, in the semifinals of the 2021 NCEA National Championship on Friday at the Extraco Events Center.Â

The meet began with Horsemanship, where the Cowgirls and Bulldogs split the contest, 2-2. Four-time All-American Harley Huff took down Georgia's Taylor Burgess, 225.5-218.5, and Jojo Roberson defeated Bulldog Kaitlin Dierks, 229-223. Sydnee Gemar and Cassidy Watters dropped their points. Â

Next on the slate was Fences, where OSU lost the first point after Sydney North dropped her ride, 239-215, to Ali Tritschler of Georgia. Following the loss, OSU would finish the event undefeated, reeling off three consecutive points beginning with All-American Katie Schell's big-time score of 254 answering UGA's Rachel McMullen's 252. Â

Following a big day yesterday, Sydnie Ziegler scored a meet-high 268 in today's contest during her 268-255 victory overÂHayley Mairano. Abigail Brayman finished off the Bulldogs in Fences, taking down Jordan Toering, 212-207. Â

The meet moved to Reining where the Bulldogs took three of the four points. Hannah Lovrien earned a huge Cowgirl point that ensured the meet would be tied at 6 heading into Flat with her defeat of UGA's Lindsay Guynn, 210.5-202. Molly Mitchell, Kinsey Jones and Stephanie Helsen all dropped their respective points. Â

Deadlocked at 6-6, Georgia swept Flat. After review, Abigail Brayman's score changed and she lost her point. Katie Pelzel and Hannah Coleman and Katie Schell went on to drop their respective points.Â

The Cowgirls finish the season at 7-2 overall and a 3-1 mark in Big 12 play.Â
