THE BASICS
As the Pokes prepare for another weekend of dual-meet action, the team will again divide and conquer at a pair of away meets in Norman, Oklahoma, and Waco, Texas.
A number of Oklahoma State's sprint event specialists will travel to Waco, Texas to represent the orange and black at the Michael Johnson Classic at Baylor, while OSU's field athletes will travel south to compete in the Sooner Invitational hosted by in-state rival Oklahoma.
IN THE POLLS
In the third installment of the National Track & Field Rating Index from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), the Cowgirls hold steady at No. 2 in the Midwest Region, joined in the top three by Big 12 foes Kansas State at No. 1 and Oklahoma at No. 3. The Cowboys made the biggest leap up the polls of any team in the Midwest, cracking the top-10 and sitting at No. 9 in the region.
LAST TIME OUT
In last weekend's two-part outdoor meet action, Oklahoma State had athletes compete at the Joe Walker Invitational and the North Texas Classic; it's most notable performances included:
- A pair of facility-record, event-winning races from Ryan Smeeton in the 3,000 meters steeplechase and Isai Rodriguez in the 5,000 meters.
- A second-consecutive event win for Finnish jumps specialist Saara Hakanen, this time in the high jump with a 1.75m height, a mark that ranks third in the Big 12 this season and fourth all-time in Cowgirl history.
