Oklahoma State Qualifies Men’s and Women’s Teams for NCAA Cross Country Championship
March 07, 2021 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track, Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
STILLWATER – The No. 6 Cowboys and No. 22 Cowgirls are among the 31 teams selected to compete in the NCAA Cross Country Championship, the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Committee announced today.
After serious consideration of the entirety of the segmented 2020 cross country season, the committee chose 31 teams and 38 individuals to compete in the NCAA Cross Country Championship to be hosted in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
By virtue of their head-to-head win over Tulsa at the OSU Winter Open and winning the Big 12 conference title over Iowa State in October, the Cowboys secured their appearance as a team in the championship and sit atop the USTFCCCA Midwest Region.
The Cowboys will compete against some familiar faces in the men's championship race, including BYU, Iowa State, Northern Arizona, Southern Utah and Tulsa – all of which the Pokes competed against at least once during the regular season.
For the Cowgirls, their statement win over Tulsa at the OSU Winter Open, along with a fourth-place finish at the FSU Winter Classic in a field that included Colorado, Stanford and Duke – all of which are qualified for the NCAA Championship – landed them a spot in the championship as a unit.
The Cowgirls rank third in the Midwest Region behind championship-qualified teams Minnesota and Illinois.
Uniquely, the Pokes will race in their own backyard for the championship, as Oklahoma State will play host for the races at the OSU Cross Country Course in Stillwater, Oklahoma on March 15.
