LUBBOCK, Texas – Oklahoma State fell to No. 4 Texas Tech Saturday at Rip Griffin Park as the Red Raiders evened the series with a 4-2 win.
The loss dropped No. 9 OSU to 12-4-1 and sets up a series-deciding game with the Red Raiders (15-4) on Sunday at 2 p.m.
The Cowboys outhit the home team by a 9-6 margin, with Jake Thompson's 3-for-4, two-RBI day leading the way. Caeden Trenkle and Christian Encarnacion-Strand also had two hits apiece for the Pokes.
Justin Wrobleski took the loss on the mound to fall to 1-2. The southpaw worked six innings and struck out six with just one walk; he allowed all four TTU runs, but just two of those were earned.
TTU jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Kurt Wilson led off the bottom of the third with a home run, but the Cowboys tied things up in their next at bat on Thompson's two-out RBI single.
The Red Raiders took control with what proved to be the decisive runs in the fourth. After a leadoff double by Dylan Neuse and a walk, Cal Conley laid down a bunt that Wrobleski fielded before firing wide of first. The throwing error allowed two runs to score, and Conley ended up at third base; he would later score on a ground out to give TTU a 4-1 lead.
Still trailing by three entering the ninth, OSU mounted a rally.
Nolan McLean walked to lead off the inning before an infield hit by Encarnacion-Strand. Both runners would advance on a wild pitch to put two Cowboys in scoring position with no outs.
After a strikeout, Thompson delivered his second RBI single to cut the Cowboys' deficit to 4-2.
Following another strikeout, a passed ball resulted in Pokes on second and third, but Trenkle flied out to end the game.
Justin Campbell worked the final two innings for the Cowboys and kept TTU off the scoreboard while allowing one hit and recording a strikeout.
