Cowgirls Storm Back To Take Down Sooners, 89-80

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Oklahoma State's women's basketball team rallied from a 15-point deficit in the quarterfinal round of the Big 12 Championship on Friday night to knock off Oklahoma in overtime, 89-80, inside Municipal Auditorium.
The win gave the Cowgirls their first three-game season sweep over their in-state rival since 1990.
The third-seeded Cowgirls led 12-10 before the No. 6 Sooners used a 7-0 run to move in front 19-14 with less than a minute to go in the quarter. OU held a 19-17 lead after the first 10 minutes of the contest.
The Sooners used another 9-0 run to start the second quarter to extend the margin to 28-17 with 6:11 remaining. The Cowgirls could not get on track offensively in the quarter, hitting just three of their 15 shots from the floor. OSU scored six points in the quarter and trailed 36-23 at the break.
The Cowgirls hit five of their first nine shots from the floor in the third, but could not slow the Sooners down as OU maintained its 13-point advantage four minutes into the period. Two minutes later, junior Ja'Mee Asberry drilled a trey to get OSU within seven at 48-41. Both teams would shoot over 60 percent in the frame and the Sooners took a 59-51 lead into the final 10 minutes.
Asberry would hit another trey to get the Cowgirls within five 90 seconds into the final quarter. However, OU would answer with five in a row to extend the margin back to double figures. The Cowgirls would cut the lead to two with three minutes remaining. A free throw from senior Natasha Mack with 1:27 left would knot the score at 71 apiece.
The Cowgirls had one final look with three seconds left, but could not convert.
In overtime, Asberry scored 10 of her game-high 28 points as OSU would go on to outscore the Sooners 18-9 in the extra stanza.
Asberry was joined in double figures by Mack, who had 20 points and 16 boards. Sophomore Lauren Fields added 12, while junior Kassidy De Lapp scored 11 and freshman Taylen Collins scored 12 points to go with eight boards.
The Cowgirls will take on West Virginia tomorrow at 3 p.m.
