Meet Notes
THE BASICS
With less than a month remaining until the NCAA Cross Country Championships, the Oklahoma State cross country teams will compete in a tune up race on their home course in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The race will be the second for the No. 22 Cowgirls, who placed fourth in the FSU Winter Classic earlier this month, and the first race for the No. 6 Cowboys in this second half of the segmented cross country season. The race will give the likely-qualified men's team a chance to knock the dust off and race against a team they'll likely see in March in No. 4 Tulsa. The Cowgirls, on the other hand, are looking to add another impressive group finish to their notable 2020-21 season resume with a team win.
STEPPING INTO SPRING
After having the opportunity to compete in a cross country season that nearly didn't happen, Oklahoma State's cross country teams are approaching the back half of the season with a renewed fervor after a rare few extra months to train for the NCAA National Championships.
The 2020 Big 12 champion-Cowboys have put together quite the season resume for the selection committee to consider a tie-breaker victory over Iowa State to win the conference race in October. Filling out the top-five for the Cowboys will be All-Big 12 runners Isai Rodriguez, Victor Shitsama, Ryan Schoppe, Alex Maier and Ryan Smeeton. Dave Smith, OSU director of cross country and track & field, has plenty of talent to choose from to round out the men's unit that will represent Oklahoma State in the NCAA Championships.
For the Cowgirls, it's Taylor Roe leading the way. The sophomore paced the Cowgirls in every race during the fall, and qualified as an individual thanks to her runner-up finish at the Big 12 Championship. With Roe's spot in the championship secure, the OSU Winter Open presents the rest of the Cowgirls lineup with a chance to earn a team spot in the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
