STILLWATER – Oklahoma State running back Jaylen Warren has been named one of seven national finalists for the 2021 Polynesian College Football Player of the Year Award, announced Thursday by the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame.
The award has been presented annually since 2014 to the most outstanding college football player of Polynesian ancestry who epitomizes great ability and integrity.
A senior transfer who arrived in Stillwater in the spring of 2021, Warren has been one of the most impactful players in the FBS this season.
After totaling 237 carries for 1,134 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns this season, Warren was selected by the Big 12 head coaches as the Big 12 Offensive Newcomer of the Year and was also an honorable mention for the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year. He led all players in the league with five Big 12 Player of the Week honors over the course of the season.
Warren had more than 100 rushing yards in five games this season, with his best performances coming on a 218-yard outing at Boise State and a 193-yard day at Texas. He also has OSU's longest rush of the year with a 75-yard run at Boise State and OSU's longest reception of the year with a 52-yard catch against Kansas State.
The 2021 Polynesian College Football Player of the Year Award finalists were selected from a watch list of more than 80 players by the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee, which includes former NFL player and inaugural inductee Jack "The Throwin' Samoan" Thompson (Chairman), coaches Ron McBride and Dick Vermeil, former NFL player and inaugural inductee Olin Kreutz, inaugural inductee and past NFLPA president Kevin Mawae, former NFL Player and Class of 2015 inductee Ray Schoenke, ESPN's Neil Everett and NFL Network's Steve Wyche.
The winner of the Polynesian College Football Player of the Year Award will be announced on December 22, and the formal presentation of the award will be held at the 2022 Polynesian Football Hall of Fame Celebration Dinner on January 21. The winner will also be recognized during the 2022 Polynesian Bowl on January 22.
Warren and the Cowboys wrap up the season on January 1 against No. 5 Notre Dame in the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl.
