Cowboys Jump to No. 5 in CFP Rankings
November 30, 2021 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State football team cracked the top five for the first time in program history in this week's edition of the College Football Playoff Rankings, released Tuesday evening.
The Cowboys sit one slot outside of a College Football Playoff berth with conference championship week ahead, behind No. 1 Georgia, No. 2 Michigan, No. 3 Alabama and No. 4 Cincinnati. Each of those teams is in action and faces a ranked opponent, with Georgia and Alabama going head-to-head for the SEC title.
This marks the 16th consecutive CFP poll OSU has been a part of dating back to November 5, 2019. This is the highest the Cowboys have ever been ranked in the College Football Playoff rankings, besting the No. 6 ranking on November 17, 2015, that was the previous high.
Oklahoma State is one of three teams representing the Big 12 Conference in the CFP Top 25. The Cowboys are the highest ranked member of the conference, followed by No. 9 Baylor and No. 14 Oklahoma.
After a 37-33 win over No. 10 Oklahoma, the Pokes now claim four victories over ranked opponents, which is tied for the most in the nation with Georgia and Alabama.
The thrilling victory over the Sooners, paired with Baylor's win over Texas Tech earlier in the day, set up a rematch between the Bears and Cowboys in Arlington for the Big 12 Championship. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. CT on ABC.
The College Football Playoff selection show will take place on Sunday, December 5, following the conference championship games.
