Cowgirl Comeback Bid Falls Just Short Against Green Bay

LAS VEGAS — Oklahoma State's women's basketball team could not overcome a 16-point halftime deficit on its way to a 57-54 loss to Green Bay on Friday afternoon at the South Point Shootout.

The loss snapped OSU's three-game winning streak and dropped the Cowgirls to 3-2 on the year.

OSU could not get going offensively in the first, hitting just two of its 18 field-goal attempts and enduring a five-minute scoring drought. Green Bay hit back-to-back 3-pointers with a minute remaining to extend to an 18-7 lead before holding an 18-8 lead through the first 10 minutes.

In the second, the Cowgirls got their first 3-pointer of the day from sophomore Neferatali Notoa with four minutes to go to get within nine before junior N'Yah Boyd's basket cut the margin to 24-17. However, the Phoenix would close the half on a 9-0 run via the 3-pointer to take a 33-17 lead at the break.

OSU shot just 16 percent in the half, hitting five of its 32 shots from the floor, while limiting Green Bay to a 36 percent effort. However, the Phoenix connected on five of 13 attempts from beyond the arc.

The Cowgirls chipped away in the third, cutting the deficit to single digits at 41-32 with less than a minute to play in the period. OSU would outscore Green Bay by a 15-8 count in the third to get back into the contest.

Junior Lauren Fields converted a three-point play with 7:43 to go in the game to get OSU within four at 43-39 before another 3-pointer from Notoa made it a 44-42 contest with seven minutes to go.

With less than four minutes to go, Green Bay would get a pair of free throws and a 3-pointer to extend the margin back to six.

Boyd was one of three Cowgirls to finish in double digits with 13 points. Fields and Notoa each added 11 apiece in the contest.
