OSU Legends to Appear at Cowboy Wrestling Golf Tournament
October 07, 2021 | Cowboy Wrestling
STILLWATER – Many Oklahoma State legends will be playing in the inaugural Cowboy Wrestling Golf Tournament on Oct. 8, 2021, hosted by the Cowboy Wrestling Club.
The celebrities who make it out to the tournament will be auctioned off to participate in the golfing. Each already registered team will bid on the celebrities they wish to have on their team.
From the OSU wrestling program itself, the current staff will be joined by alumni Lee Roy Smith, Mike Sheets, Chris Barnes, Steve Mocco, Hardell Moore and Little Rock's head coach Neil Erisman, as well as current Cowboys Daton Fix and AJ Ferrari. This group of some of college wrestling's finest has combined for 12 individual national championships and 32 All-American honors.
Also present will be Rex Holt who has been the voice of Cowboy wrestling on the radio for the past 16 years and Dave Hunziker who will appear as the Oklahoma State football team on its bye week.
OSU head softball coach Kenny Gajewski will look to continue his winning ways, but this time on the golf course. Gajewski has led the Cowgirls to back-to-back women's college world series appearances in 2019 and 2021. A few other OSU coaches will be in attendance featuring Cowboy baseball's student assistant coach Robin Ventura and Cowgirl tennis head coach, Chris Young. One of the greatest college baseball players of all time, Ventura holds the NCAA record with a 58-game hitting streak he set back in 1987. He is still the program record holder in batting average (.428), hits (329) and runs (300) while ranking second in doubles (71), home runs (68), total bases (608), RBIs (302) and slugging percentage (.792) after just three seasons. Young has led his program to national prominence at the Greenwood Tennis Center posting a 204-97 record during his 12 seasons at the helm in Stillwater. He's led the Cowgirls to nine straight appearances at the NCAA tournament, including a national runner-up finish in 2016.
Among all the OSU greats, the Cowboy Wrestling Club is bringing in boxing legend Micky Ward. A former World Boxing Union light welterweight champion, Ward's career record was 38-13 with 27 of his wins coming via knockout.
The Cowboy Wrestling golf tournament will take place at the Stillwater Country Club beginning at 8 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 8. The celebrity auction will start at 9 a.m., followed by the shotgun start to the round of golf at 10 a.m. A meet and greet and awards ceremony will close out the event later in the day. Fans are welcome to join the Cowboys for the day as the event is free of charge to get in.
