Warren, Taylor II Earn Big 12 Player of the Week Honors
October 18, 2021 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State running back Jaylen Warren and safety Jason Taylor II earned conference honors for their performances in OSU's 32-24 win at No. 25 Texas, as Warren was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week and Taylor was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week.
Warren rushed 33 times for 193 yards in the win over the Longhorns, accounting for nearly half of OSU's offensive yardage in the game. In the fourth quarter alone, Warren carried 13 times for 118 yards. His performance in the final quarter was the driving factor in OSU turning an 8-point deficit entering the quarter into an 8-point victory.
It marked the fourth consecutive 100-yard rushing performance for the senior transfer, and he outperformed the nation's third-leading rusher, Bijan Robinson, by 58 yards on the ground. In the last four games, Warren has 659 rushing yards (164.8 per game). He is now the only player with two of the top five single-game rushing yardage totals in the Big 12 this season, including No. 1 (218 at Boise State) and No. 5 (193 at Texas).
Taylor returned a second-quarter interception 85 yards for a touchdown, causing a significant shift in momentum as Texas held a 17-3 advantage and had driven to the Oklahoma State 18-yard line in a bid to extend the lead.
His pick-six marked the longest interception return for any Big 12 player since the 2019 season and the second longest return for any Power Five player in 2021. It tied for the fourth-longest interception return in Oklahoma State history and is the longest for OSU since 2001. The play also marked the third touchdown of Taylor's career, adding to his 85-yard fumble return for a touchdown at Kansas State last year and his 48-yard onside kick return for a touchdown against Texas Tech last year. Taylor also finished with seven tackles on the day, ranking as the second-most on the team.
The recognition marks the fourth Big 12 weekly honor for Warren this season and the second for Taylor. Oklahoma State now has nine Big 12 weekly honors in 2021.
