October 12, 2021 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State softball team earned its fifth win of the fall over Cowley County, 26-2, at Cowgirl Stadium on Tuesday.
The Cowgirls created early separation with RBI doubles from Hayley Busby and Chyenne Factor in the first and second innings, respectively. In the third, Karli Petty launched a two-run home run to double the Cowgirls lead.
Michaela Richbourg and Kiley Naomi each blasted two-run homers in OSU's half of the fourth to extend the lead.
An eleven-run eighth inning marked the climax of the Cowgirls' offensive showing, highlighted by a Maggie Herdejurgen two-run homer on the first pitch of her first at-bat of the fall.
Redshirt junior Kelly Maxwell got the start in the circle and picked up the win. In four innings of work, she struck out 10 of the 14 batters she faced and surrendered only one hit.
Two-way specialist Tatum Clopton, a freshman out of Lawrence, Kan., took over in the circle in the fifth and struck out three in two hitless innings. At the plate, Clopton added a pair of runs to Oklahoma State's total with a two-run home run that hit the scoreboard. Savannah Evans, Bailie Runner, Morgan Day and Kathryn Ogg pitched an inning each to end the day.
The Cowgirls are back in action tomorrow when North Texas visits Cowgirl Stadium for a 5 p.m. first pitch.
