Plott Continues OSU’s Tradition of In-State Talent

STILLWATER — Historically, Oklahoma State has dominated the wrestling scene, partially due to the wealth of in-state talent that Oklahoma has churned out over the years.
Many former OSU wrestlers have come from Oklahoma and won national championships, including Cowboy legends Kenny Monday, John Smith and Chris Perry.
Current Cowboy All-Americans Kaid Brock, Boo Lewallen and Daton Fix are also from Oklahoma and incoming freshman Dustin Plott is looking to put his name alongside all the other OSU legends from the state.
Plott was born In Bakersfield, California on Nov. 26, 2000 to parents Robert and Amy Plott. He has two siblings named Sam and Zoey. Plott began his wresting career at five years old after his dad and uncle started a youth wrestling program.
He attended Tuttle High School where he wrestled for coach Matt Surber and compiled an impressive resumé prior to his enrollment at OSU.
Plott was a two-time state champion and three-time All-American, while also finishing second at the Fargo National Championships in 2018 and 2019. He was also the Super 32 Challenge champion in 2018 at 170 pounds.
Plott, the No. 2 ranked pound-for-pound wrestler in the class of 2020 at the time of his commitment, said the biggest thing that went into his college decision was OSU fit his goals and what he wants to achieve, both academically and athletically.
"Growing up in Oklahoma, it's always been my dream to wrestle here at Oklahoma State, so it worked out," Plott said. "I also know I can get a good degree here. I'm going into Agricultural Business and this is one of the best in the country for that."
Plott is projected to wrestle at 174 pounds for the Cowboys and said he wants to have his name listed among the OSU greats, both in college and internationally.
"I want to be a multiple-time national champion and then go on and make world teams, make Olympic teams and win gold medals," Plott said. "I'd also like to win some team championships, that would be pretty cool."
