STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State football team received four Big 12 Player of the Week honors Monday as the conference honored wide receiver Tylan Wallace, linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez, kicker Alex Hale and quarterback Shane Illingworth.
Wallace was honored as the Offensive Player of the Week after he finished with four catches for 99 yards to lead all players in OSU's win over Tulsa. The senior All-America and Biletnikoff candidate had three receptions of at least 20 yards in the third quarter alone, including catches of 36 and 29 yards.
The Defensive Player of the Week recognition went to Rodriguez, whose fourth quarter sack on fourth down with 2:01 remaining sealed the win for the Cowboys. The Wagoner, Oklahoma native finished the game with 10 tackles, nine solo stops, two QB hurries, 2.0 tackles for loss and 1.0 sack. With nine solo stops, he now ranks No. 2 in the FBS in that category.
Hale earned Special Teams Player of the Week honors after he connected on all three of his field goal attempts, hitting from 27, 40 and 29 yards. He also made his lone PAT attempt and his 10 points scored led all players in the game. The four place kicks marked the first attempts of his career.
Entering the game in the third quarter, Illingworth was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week. The Norco, California native became the first true freshman to quarterback the Cowboys in his first career game since Wes Lunt in 2012. He completed all three pass attempts for 78 yards on his first drive, which ended with OSU's go-ahead touchdown run. He finished the game 4-of-5 passing for 79 yards.
The weekly honor is the second for Rodriguez in his career, while the other three recipients are first-time winners.
