Cowboys Ready for Unordinary Season

STILLWATER – As Oklahoma State continues fall practice in preparation for its season opener against Tulsa on Sept. 12, the offensive line is still looking for guys to step up to solidify the group blocking for All-American running back, Chuba Hubbard. After losing several starters from last season, the group up front has a bunch of new faces looking to earn their spot as the season nears closer.
Â
"The competition is high," center Ry Schneider said. "Everyone is wanting to step up and prove themselves and take the spots that have opened up. Whoever it is that steps up and takes it, we are going to be ready to go."
Â
With a new group of offensive lineman, an experienced Cowboy Back position will be relied on heavily all over the field. The position group containing redshirt seniors, Dayton Metcalf and Logan Carter along with redshirt junior Jelani Woods will be asked to do a plethora of tasks for the offense.
Â
"I look at it as a versatile role," Carter said. "You're going to see the Cowboy Backs all over the field lined up inline, in the backfield and even split outside both blocking and running routes. There will be three or four of us running in and out of the rotation at Cowboy Back and maybe even a couple of us on the field at the same time. I think we're going to get a lot of time and be put to use."
Â
With a year and offseason that has already been like no other from canceled spring practice to virtual meetings and social distancing, the Cowboys are preparing for a season like no other. Oklahoma State recently announced a limited number of fans will be allowed inside Boone Pickens Stadium in the fall.
Â
"You can feel the crowd energy and that's always cool, but I don't really focus on that or hear that," Carter said. "I'm more focused on what is happening when I am on the field. As long as my mom and sister are going to be at the game, I'm going to be perfectly fine knowing they are there watching me. It's not going to be the same. Nothing is the same right now, but when it comes down to it football is football. The field is the same size and I know our guys here are ready to play."
Â
The Cowboys, who were recently ranked No. 15 in the AP Poll that was released on Aug. 24, have high aspirations for this year and believe they are ready for whatever comes their way.
Â
"I'm hoping we end on a high note," Schneider said. "That is why I am here and why I'm doing it. We have certain goals in place and we hope we reach them. Whatever curveballs get thrown at us, we want to be able to hit them and hit all our goals."
