Cowboy Basketball Standouts McGriff, Likekele Earn All-Big 12 Recognition
March 08, 2020 | Cowboy Basketball
STILLWATER – Hours after leading Oklahoma State to its third straight victory, Cowboy standouts Cameron McGriff and Isaac Likekele were named honorable mention selections to the 2020 Phillips 66 All-Big 12 Conference basketball team.
OSU has had at least two players represented on the All-Big 12 teams (Coaches or Associated Press) every year since the league began in 1996-97, and these represent the fifth and sixth all-conference selections under Mike Boynton.
This is the second career All-Big 12 honor for McGriff, who has reached double-figures in scoring in each of the last 12 games. The senior is just six points shy of 1,200 for his career, and needs only 10 rebounds to move into the top 10 in program history.
Likekele is celebrating his first career postseason award. The sophomore is coming off his third double-double of the season, and is the league's only player averaging 5.6 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.9 steals per game.
The official All-Big 12 awards are selected by the league's head coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own players. All-Big 12 First Team honorees include Udoka Azubuike, his Kansas teammate Devon Dotson, Jared Butler (Baylor), Kristian Doolittle (Oklahoma) and Desmond Bane (TCU).
Azubuike was selected Player of the Year while Scott Drew earned Baylor's first Coach of the Year to headline the awards.
Marcus Garrett (Kansas) was named Defensive Player of the Year while Davion Mitchell (Baylor) was voted Newcomer of the Year and Jahmi'Us Ramsey (Texas Tech) captured Freshman of the Year. Devonte Bandoo (Baylor) picked up the Sixth Man Award and Freddie Gillespie (Baylor) was voted as the Most Improved Player.
The Cowboys earned the No. 8 seed and will open play at the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship against No. 9 Iowa State on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo.
