Quotes: Oklahoma State vs Kansas State
March 04, 2020 | Cowboy Basketball
Oklahoma State head coach Mike Boynton
Thoughts on the game:
"This one is not leaving Stillwater and I am sure we're going to find a way to put this one behind us. Wins are hard to come by and any win in the Big 12 is a good one, no matter what the team is seeded in the league at the time because everyone has good coaches and good players. I'm proud of our guys for finding a way to win, even though we didn't play our best we found a way to do that today."
On Cam McGriff's role on offense:
"We thought that Cam would be able to use his physicality and be able to get the ball into the paint. We wanted to put him in a position where they would either have to foul him or allow him to shoot layups. I was proud of his effort, particularly him going to the glass and playing the right way."
On Isaac Likekele:
"He was a Swiss-Army knife today. He is a man of many talents. He rebounded the ball extremely well, getting out in transition and finding his teammates. He probably could have had a triple-double if we had made a couple more of those shots in transition and he doesn't miss a couple of free throws. He set the tone early with his rebounding and his defense and gave us a chance to win.
On starting the second half fast:
"I was concerned about that because we didn't finish the first half great. We had a chance to have a larger lead if we made a few layups and I wanted to set a good tone to start the second half like we did. They responded like good teams do, but I am glad we had a response to their response."
Kansas State head coach Bruce Weber
On the game:
"We knew it would be a hard-fought game. Since Isaac Likekele has come back, they've played good basketball, and Cam McGriff has played at a high level to end his career. I thought our defense was good. We turned them over 21 times, and we're still one of the best teams in the country at turning people over. We had some opportunities. They're aggressive in the half-court and took us out of things. Three key plays were off OSU airballs that they beat us to that ended up in points when you study a six-point difference that was a difference. It was a hard-fought game, and we had a chance, but we couldn't get over the hump."
On players not scoring:
"We have to make some shots. Some shots were open. Some were forced, and some were because of good defense. They overplay things, but we had some open ones. We also got in foul trouble."
On how the season has gone:
"It's hard. I don't have much emotion left. We're right there in games that take the emotion out of you. I always pride myself on getting guys to play together and play hard, but I guess I haven't done a good enough job with this group. Credit to Isaac Likekele, I love him. His lines are unbelievable. McGriff had a great finish to his career. I know we weren't happy when Dean Wade and Barry Brown left. They will feel the same when Cam McGriff, Lindy Waters, and Thomas Dziagwa leave, they've had good careers. I hate when you hear nationally that the league on the bottom isn't that good. They're pretty good. If you have any basketball knowledge, their 7-0 in the top 25 when Isaac Likekele gets mono, and it changes their whole season, and now they're pretty good again. Their playing very hard."
