STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State football team held its annual Pro Day Tuesday, as 10 Cowboy seniors worked out in front of NFL personnel from across the league.
OSU's participants included kicker Matt Ammendola, defensive back Bryce Balous, quarterback Dru Brown, defensive back A.J. Green, offensive lineman Marcus Keyes, wide receiver Jordan McCray, linebacker Philip Redwine-Bryant, defensive lineman Mike Scott, defensive back Kemah Siverand and offensive lineman Johnny Wilson.
Pro Day started at the OSU football weight room inside Boone Pickens Stadium before moving across the street to the Sherman E. Smith Training Center for timed events and position drills.
Some of the best marks of the day included a 36-inch vertical jump from Brown, 28 bench press reps from Wilson and 18 bench press reps from Balous. Brown's vertical would have ranked No. 1 among all quarterbacks at the 2020 NFL Combine, while Wilson's bench numbers would have ranked sixth among offensive lineman and Balous' would have ranked seventh among defensive backs.
All timed events were kept on handheld stopwatches by NFL scouts.
After the drill work was completed, several Cowboys met with media to talk about the day's events. Some of their comments:
Cornerback A.J. Green
On what he wanted to work on at Pro Day:
"My 40 time, and I think I made a big jump today."
On the prospect of being drafted:
"It's something I have been hoping for my whole life since I was a little toddler. I'm almost at the finish line. Now I just have to keep going."
On feedback he's received from scouts:
"They want to see my speed. I put up a good number at the combine on the bench press. I feel like I am just stacking the chips."
On his improved 40 time:
"I was just focused and locked in. It was one of the last shots to run my 40 ever again. I just had to make it count."
On what's next:
"I'm going to go back home for a few days, and then I am going to go train."
Offensive Lineman Johnny Wilson
On his bench press:
"I feel good. I should have got 30. I rushed into 29 and I should have taken my time on 28 and knocked the last two out. I was happy with it. I hadn't really done that many reps on 225. I kind of just got to 25, racked it and stopped because I knew I had more left in the tank. I think Marcus and I prepared well. I was happy with my performance today. I was glad to put up some numbers. I'm excited to see what happens."
On conversations with scouts:
"It's good stuff. I don't want to share too much, but I'm excited. I'm excited to see what these guys want to talk to me about. Hopefully, I can get some one-on-one's with some scouts. We had plenty of time to talk at the Hula Bowl and then in Daytona for the Tropical Bowl. I feel like they have an idea already and I just need to go into the break and work on the things they are telling me to work on."
On what he wanted to show during Pro Day:
"Speed and strength. I know everyone makes fun of my arms because they're short, but today I just wanted to go out and prove that they're short and strong, I'm explosive and I've got some speed behind me, so I was excited. I was happy with my vert and stuff like that."
Quarterback Dru Brown
On his Pro Day performance:
"I thought it was pretty good. There's always room for improvement. I missed a few throws here and there, but it was good to see all the guys do well. Guys that were running routes did well, caught the ball well. It seemed like everyone tested well. I had a lot of fun out there today."
On his journey to Pro Day:
"I've always kept perspective. I'm not really supposed to be here, but it's a product of the work I've put in. No one can take it away from me. It means a lot to me that I went to junior college, because no one really wanted me. With that being said, I'm very grateful for the University of Hawaii giving me a chance and Oklahoma State. So every time I come on the field, whether it's in tights or pads, I have it in my mind for sure."
