Quotes: Oklahoma State vs Iowa State
February 29, 2020 | Cowboy Basketball
Oklahoma State head coach Mike Boynton
On overall how the game went:
"I thought defensively, after the first three possessions, we were pretty good pretty much the rest of the game. We had a couple possessions there that weren't great but I thought our focus and intent was always in the right place and led us to get out of transition and get some baskets there. I thought when we really needed to, we attacked the way we're capable of inside and got some easy baskets."
On how Thomas Dziagwa did throughout the game:
"He had a pretty good grove about him. He had a pep in his step. I don't know if it was senior day or his teammates were finding him more consistently but he got some pretty good looks and he knocked most of them down today. That's what he's capable of doing for this team and I am glad that on the day we recognized the seniors, he was able to play so well.
On how Cameron McGriff did throughout the game:
"Cam, like we've talked about multiple times throughout the past few weeks, he's been our rock. He's been the guy who has taken ownership of what this team was going to be able to achieve down the stretch. I'm certainly proud of all those guys, but Cam making the adjustment in how he's playing really gave us a chance to get this thing turned around after a rough January."
On how special the senior group is:
"I had to catch myself briefly just thinking about what we've been through together and what those kids have sacrificed for our program. The resiliency that they've shown and stuck with us through some pretty turbulent times and that's not always the norm these days. These guys have a great foundation at home and their parents have instilled great values of perseverance and I'm glad I've been a part of the journey with them"
Iowa State head coach Steve Prohm
Thoughts on the game:
"Give credit to Oklahoma State on senior day. They hit shots. Turnovers and transition, along with shot selection by us, was the biggest difference in the game. The way they play defense, and you have to play defense and take good shots. Oklahoma State did a good job today. We got off to a good start and weren't able to sustain it. "
On the way OSU played:
"They did a good job being physical and giving us a tough time. In a game like this, you have to go and make plays."
On getting in the paint:
"We have to put pressure on the paint and get position, and then they will have to adjust. We got in the paint a few times but were unable to sustain it. You have to have good movement and strength against them. We needed to be able to drive make plays and hit threes."
On the rest of the season:
"We have to get turned around quickly because we still have a chance to get to 7-11 in our league. There's a lot still left to play for when you look at seeding. We got beat up at West Virginia pretty good but we have to be able to respond, and I'm sure Coach Huggins will have his guys ready after today."
