Former Pokes Shine at USATF Indoor Championships

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Oklahoma State track and field was well represented at the 2020 USATF Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on February 14 and 15. Three former OSU track and field athletes participated in the championships and brought home impressive finishes.

Former Cowboy Josh Thompson took home the national title in the Toyota Men's 1,500 meters race with a time of 3:44.07.

Thompson earned indoor All-American honors in 2016 and 2017 and won four individual indoor conference championships in those years in the 1,000 meters and mile races. Thompson also holds the school record in the indoor 1,000 meters with a time of 2:22.07.

Meanwhile, former Cowgirl Chase Ealey dominated to secure the women's shot put national title with a throw of 18.99 meters, which set a world-leading mark. Ealey surpassed the world-leading throw of 18.95 meters set by Jessica Ramsey on January 18, 2020.

Ealey earned indoor All-America honors in 2015 and 2016 in shot put. Ealey owns the shot put school record with a mark of 17.63 meters.

Finally, former Cowgirl Kaela Edwards turned in the fastest time in her heat for the Toyota Women's 800 meters run with a time of 2:02.50 to advance to the six-person final on the last day of competition. In the women's 800 meters final, Edwards took home second place with a time of 2:02.41.

In 2016, Edwards became the fourth Cowgirl to win an individual indoor NCAA title, which she won in the mile with a time of 4:35.62. In 2014, Edwards earned indoor All-America honors in the 800 meters and then earned indoor All-America honors in the mile in 2016 and 2017. Edwards is a four-time indoor conference champion, twice in the 1,000-meter race in 2015 and 2016, as well as in the mile in 2016 and in the 800 meters in 2017. Edwards also owns the school record in the 1,000 meters and mile, which she set in 2017.
