Oklahoma State Game Notes
• The Basics
Oklahoma State rolled to a 17-point victory over rival Oklahoma to capture its largest Phillips 66 Bedlam win since 2010. After dropping its first eight Big 12 games, the Cowboys have now won four of their last six games and each of their last three home contests. With six wins away from GIA this season, OSU will now travel to Lawrence, Kansas to take on one of the nation's toughest road environments at Allen Fieldhouse. The Jayhawks are coming off a 64-61 win over No. 1 Baylor to jump into a tie atop the Big 12 standings. Udoka Azubuike was unstoppable in the matchup in Waco, Texas, and finished with 23 points and 19 rebounds.
• On the Air
The Cowboys will make their third appearance on ESPN's Big Monday showcase of 2019-20. Bob Wischusen, Fran Fraschilla and Holly Rowe will have the call. Tipoff is slated for 8 p.m. CT, and the webcast can be seen on the WatchESPN app or ESPN.com/Watch. As always, Dave Hunziker and John Holcomb will have the Cowboy Radio Network call.
• Seeding Scenarios
With four regular-season games remaining before the Big 12 Championship, the Cowboys sit in a tie for eighth place at 4-10 in league play. However, OSU is just two games behind the trio of Oklahoma, Texas and TCU for fifth place in the standings, and based on win percentage the Cowboys will face the second "easiest" remaining schedule in the Big 12 over the final weeks of the season (.574 win percentage). If the conference tournament started today, Oklahoma State would play Iowa State in the opening round for the rights to take on either Kansas or Baylor in the quarterfinals. The Cowboys are 12-2 all-time in the first round of the Big 12 Championship.
• Consistent Cam
Cameron McGriff, who is coming off a career-high-tying 28 points in the win over Oklahoma, has morphed into Oklahoma State's most consistent player and go-to scorer. The senior has refined his shot-selection with an emphasis on getting into the paint, and as a result he's scored in double-figures in each of the last eight games with an average KenPom offensive efficiency rating of 112.5. In the last eight games, McGriff is averaging 15.5 points and 7.6 rebounds, and is shooting 49.4 percent. He recently became just the sixth player in school history with at least 1,000 points, 700 rebounds and 55 blocks, and the senior has played in 127 career games - 15th most in school history. He ranks eighth in the Big 12 with 6.8 rebounds per game, and his 82.8 free throw percentage ranks fourth.
• The Series With The Jayhawks
This will be the 177th meeting between Oklahoma State and Kansas, which trails only the Bedlam matchup with Oklahoma (240 meetings) as OSU's longest standing rivalry. This will be the 36th consecutive meeting in which the Jayhawks have been ranked inside the Associated Press top-25. Kansas leads the overall series to 117-59, including a 62-12 margin in Lawrence.
• Success Against Kansas
No other program has had as much recent success against Kansas as Oklahoma State, which has eight wins over the Jayhawks since 2008. OSU has won four of the last seven games against KU in Gallagher-Iba Arena, including the famous 2018 sweep of the Jayhawks - the first by any program since 2001. Oklahoma State's last eight wins over Kansas have been unranked Cowboys teams upsetting a Jayhawks squad ranked No. 8 or better in the AP poll. In fact, OSU pulled off an improbable upset in 2016 when a 12-win Cowboys squad took down No. 3 Kansas, 86-67.
• McGriff At His Best
Cowboy senior Cameron McGriff has always been at his best against the Jayhawks. McGriff has four career games of 18 points or more against KU, and is averaging 15.2 points and 7.2 rebounds while shooting 47.8 percent from the floor over the last six meetings dating back to his sophomore season. In eight career games against KU, McGriff is averaging 11.4 points, 5.6 boards and 46.5 percent shooting.
