Cowgirls Even Season Bedlam Series With Win In Norman

NORMAN, Okla. — Oklahoma State evened up the regular season series in the Bedlam rivalry with a 73-69 win in Norman on Tuesday night to improve to 14-10 (5-7 Big 12) on the year.
The duo of Vivian Gray and Natasha Mack got the Cowgirls rolling early in the game, accounting for the team's first six points. Oklahoma took advantage of an 8-0 run to take an early 14-6 lead. The Cowgirls wouldn't stay down long before responding with an eight-point run of their own to tie the game at 14. After the first 10 minutes, OSU trailed 18-16.
Oklahoma State opened the second quarter with eight straight points to take a 24-18 lead. Vivian Gray became the first double-digit scorer for the Cowgirls after knocking down a corner three. In first half fashion, the Sooners ended the half on a 7-0 run to take a 32-31 lead into halftime. Vivian Gray led the way for the Cowgirls in the first half with 12 points, while Natasha Mack contributed 10 points and six rebounds.
OSU shot 42 percent from the field and 50 percent from three-point range in the opening half, while holding the Sooners to 1-of-9 from behind the arc.
The third quarter proved critical for the Cowgirls after Oklahoma extended their lead to seven points coming out of the half. Clitan de Sousa put the first points on the board for OSU in the second half on her way to seven points in the quarter. Natahsa Mack scored six straight points in the midst of a 9-0 run for the Cowgirls to take the 48-44 lead. Natasha Mack scored 10 points in the third quarter on 4-of-5 shooting from the field to propel the Cowgirls to a 50-47 lead heading into the final 10 minutes.
After taking the lead with 2:58 left in the third quarter, the Cowgirls would not surrender their lead for the rest of the game, extending their lead to a game-high 11 points in the final quarter. OSU shot 66.7 percent from the field in the last 10 minutes, while holding the Sooners to 35 percent from the field in the quarter to secure the 73-69 victory for the Cowgirls.
Vivian Gray was the top scorer for the Cowgirls with 24 points, her 49th consecutive game scoring double-digit points. Natasha Mack recorded her 16th double-double of the year with 23 points and 18 rebounds. Clitan de Sousa tied her career-high with 15 points, a mark which she set in the first Bedlam meeting of the year.
The Cowgirls are back in action on Saturday, February 15 as they return home to take on the Baylor Lady Bears inside Gallagher-Iba Arena at 7 p.m.
