Oklahoma State Post-Game Notes
Game Flow
- Oklahoma State trailed, 12-0, at halftime, but the defense forced three consecutive three-and-outs and the offense did its part by producing a touchdown and two field goals to give the Cowboys a 13-12 advantage with 58 seconds remaining in the third quarter. An 85-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Jason Taylor II (the fourth-longest in school history) gave the Cowboys a 20-12 lead with 6:32 left. Kansas State scored a touchdown with 2:08 left, but OSU defensive end Brock Martin forced a fumble on the two-point conversion attempt that would have tied the game. Kansas State had one last opportunity to win the game, but Tre Sterling intercepted a pass at midfield with 1:38 left to clinch the OSU victory.
- Perhaps the five most explosive talents on the Oklahoma State roster were either out for the game or played through obvious pain and the Cowboys remained in control of their own destiny in the Big 12 race by claiming a 20-18 win over Kansas State in Manhattan Saturday. Out for OSU were All-America receiver Tylan Wallace and first-team All-Big 12 safety Kolby Harvell-Peel. Playing through obvious pain were All-America running back Chuba Hubbard, quarterback Spencer Sanders and offensive tackle Teven Jenkins.
Game Notes
- Oklahoma State remained in control of its own destiny in the Big 12 title race with the victory.
- Tylan Wallace played one play in the game and it was a big one. With Kansas State attempting an onside kick with 2:03 left, the ball bounced awkwardly toward Wallace near the sideline and he had the presence of mind to not try and receive it in traffic, rather, he deflected it out of bounds.
- The Oklahoma State defense limited Kansas State to 143 passing yards to mark the second time this year the OSU defense has held an opponent under 150 passing yards.
- With running back Chuba Hubbard playing through pain, LD Brown again came to the fore, rushing 15 times for 110 yards. It marked his second 100-yard game this season.
- With Tylan Wallace out, Dillon Stoner moved from his inside receiver spot to outside receiver and set season highs with seven catches for 62 yards.
- Brennan Presley scored the first touchdown of his career when he took a sweep on the right side and ran it in for a nine-yard score in the third quarter. It marked the first touchdown for an Oklahoma State true freshman since J.D. King scored twice against West Virginia in 2018.
- In addition to the previously-mentioned injuries, starting left tackle Jake Springfield also missed the game to injury. In place of Springfield, redshirt freshman Preston Wilson made the first start of his career. Others making their first start of the 2020 season were receiver Landon Wolf, defensive linemen Brock Martin and Israel Antwine and linebacker Devin Harper.
- Saturday's game marked the 45th consecutive start of Rodarius Williams' career, matching Shaun Lewis for second on OSU's consecutive starts list. NFL first-round pick and multiple-time Pro Bowler Russell Okung is the only Cowboy with more (47).
