Homecoming on Deck for Wallace Twins
November 30, 2020 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – One of the best wide receivers to ever put on an Oklahoma State uniform took the field at Boone Pickens Stadium for the final time in Saturday's 50-44 win over Texas Tech.
"I felt like when I was a freshman this was going by so slow and then you get here and it's your last game here and you're about to leave," Tylan Wallace said. "It gets a little emotional when you get out there and realize you will never play in this stadium again, but I couldn't be more proud of the team and the way we played."
Wallace tallied 129 yards and a touchdown against the Red Raiders, which marked his 14th game surpassing 100 yards receiving in his OSU career. The All-America receiver sits in the top five of nearly all receiving categories in program history even though he missed half of his junior season with a season-ending knee injury.
"He has made our football team much better from his competitive leadership standpoint," head coach Mike Gundy said. "Our team has followed his willingness to perform at a high level and personally for him, he has made himself a lot of money this year. He has been a joy to be around and a joy to coach particularly this year coming back from his injury."
Wallace's return to form was aided by his twin brother's support. Now a student assistant after initially coming to OSU as a quarterback, Tracin Wallace was forced to retire from football due to multiple injuries.
"Those guys are inseparable," Gundy said. "Tracin wants to get into coaching and he's off to a good start. It gives him a chance to be a part of this team and a part of his brother, which is important. He's a guy we trust on the sideline with communication and has a really clear communication with his brother during games. It's been awesome that we've been able to help him out with his injuries and be a part of his career."
The Wallace twins return to their home town when OSU takes on TCU in Fort Worth this week. Gundy said a Gary Patterson-led team is one that will always present a challenge.
"Gary is one of the best coaches in college football," Gundy said. "There's no question about his durability from the standpoint of years of service and the teams he has had. They don't always get four or five star players, but they find a way to win. We have a really good relationship and I enjoy competing against him. They're really good on defense again this year, they do a nice job of running to the ball and he has a plan, so it will be a real challenge for us on Saturday."
