First Place on the Line

STILLWATER – A spot atop the Big 12 standings is on the line when the No. 14 Oklahoma State football team travels to Kansas State Saturday.
"I told the team last night when I graded the tape Saturday night that this team has given more effort and played as hard as any team we've had here since I've been the head coach," Gundy said. "They're doing their part, but sometimes the ball is going to bounce the other way. If I'm looking at the big picture, we have everything intact we need (to win a Big 12 championship), but myself and our staff and our team just have to worry about tonight's practice and take it day by day."
Four OSU turnovers was the difference in the overtime loss to Texas, but Gundy doesn't want that to affect how aggressively the Cowboys play, including quarterback Spencer Sanders.
"He'll make some mistakes because he is still young, but we don't want to put a leash on him. We need to let him go. He makes a lot of plays and we don't want to tone him down, we want to let him rip it and play football."
Sanders threw for a career-high 400 yards and four touchdowns against Texas with 187 of those going to All-America receiver Tylan Wallace. The former Biletnikoff Award finalist is fifth in receptions and receiving yards in program history.
"He is a special player whose attitude, work ethic and competitive nature is great," Gundy said of Wallace. "We just enjoy the games we have left with him before he moves onto the NFL."
