NORMAN, Okla. – Oklahoma State closed out the fall with a 1-0 win over Bedlam-rival Oklahoma Thursday night at John Crain Field.
Grace Yochum converted a penalty kick in the 62nd minute for the lone score in the match as the 11th-ranked Cowgirls completed the fall with a 6-2-1 record. OSU also improved to 27-9-4 all time against the Sooners.
OSU finished the match with an 18-12 advantage in shots, while also holding an 8-5 edge in corner kicks.
In the opening half, the Cowgirls tallied 11 shots and had a couple of near misses, one coming on a header by Yochum with OU goalie Nikki Panas making a leaping save and another when a deep blast off a free kick by Kim Rodriguez sailed just inches over the crossbar.
OSU finally got onto the scoreboard early in the second half. A shot by Olyvia Dowell headed on frame deflected off an OU defender's hand in the box, and the Cowgirls were awarded a penalty kick. Yochum stepped up and delivered a top shelf shot to put OSU ahead; Yochum's goal was her fourth of the season, tying her with Dowell for the team lead.
The Cowgirls' defense continued to rise to the occasion in the second half, with Hannah Webb making a huge play in the 68th minute when she headed a shot by OU's Yuuka Kurosaki off the line.
Emily Plotz finished with four saves to record her fourth shutout of the season. She allowed just six goals in nine games this fall.
