Cowboys Wrap Up Day One At Big 12 Match Play

HOCKLEY, TEXAS – Oklahoma State's men's golf team went 1-0-1 during the first day of action at the Big 12 Match Play Tournament on Friday at Houston Oaks. After knocking off Texas during the morning round, the Cowboys tied their afternoon match with Texas Tech.
Against the Longhorns, the Cowboys won four of the six individual bouts and tied the other two versus the No. 2 seed at the par-71, 7,007-yard layout.
Jonas Baumgartner was impressive in his debut, posting a 4-and-2 win over Hunter Ostrom. The freshman won the first three holes of the match and never looked back, making the turn with a 3-up advantage and winning two of the last three holes to close out the win.
Sophomore Eugenio Chacarra tied his match with Christoffer Bring.
Sophomore Aman Gupta continued the impressive match play performance he displayed this summer en route to his U.S. Amateur semifinal berth, taking down Cole Hammer in a 6-and-5 victory. After tying the first three holes, Gupta won four of the next five to take command. He then reeled off wins over the final three holes to close out the match.
Sophomore Brian Stark added a point on the board with his 2-and-1 triumph over Mason Nome, while junior Austin Eckroat notched a 1-up win over Pierceson Coody.
Sophomore Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen tied his match with Travis Vick.
During afternoon play, the Cowboys and third-seeded Red Raiders each won a pair of matches, while splitting the two remaining tilts.
The Cowboys got a 2-and-1 victory from Neergaard-Petersen over Garrett Martin and a 3-and-2 win by Gupta over Ludvig Adberg.
Chacarra and Eckroat tied their matches with Andy Lopez and Baard Skogen, respectively.
Stark fell to Sandy Scott, 2 up, while Baumgartner was clipped by Carl Didrik Meen Fosaas, 1 up.
