Oklahoma State Posts Pair of Top-Three Finishes at OSU Invitational
October 17, 2020 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track, Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State men's and women's cross country teams earned second-place and third-place team finishes, respectively, this morning at the OSU Invitational.
OSU's day on the course started with the men's 8K, in which nine of the last 11 NCAA men's cross country champions – BYU, Colorado, Northern Arizona and Oklahoma State – competed. The Cowboys earned the runner-up spot, six points shy of the event-winning Northern Arizona. At the head of the pack for Oklahoma State's men was Isai Rodriguez, who earned a fifth-place finish overall with his time of 23:47.8. Rodriguez was joined in the top 15 by Alex Maier in ninth place, Victor Shitsama in 10th and Ryan Smeeton in 11th overall.
"We listened to coach for this one and prepared for today just like it was another day of practice," Rodriguez said. "This one gives us confidence. If we can compete like this with teams that won national titles, we are going to feel really good heading into the conference meet."
For the Cowgirls, it was Taylor Roe's second-straight, runner-up performance that highlighted their third-place team finish. Roe shaved nearly 12 seconds off her previous personal best and crossed the finish line in 20:38.4. Joining Roe in the top-15 was Gabby Hentemann in 12th place.
"Honestly just being out here with my teammates, it's a blessing to even be able to race not one time, but twice here at home," Roe said. "I'm so grateful for my coaches who have pushed me and believed in me."
Up next, the Pokes will close out the abbreviated fall schedule at the 2020 Big 12 Cross Country Championships in Lawrence, Kansas on Oct. 30.
