A Quick Nine With Rayhan Thomas
January 18, 2020 | Cowboy Golf
1. What is it about OSU that made you want to come here?
"The coaches and obviously the history behind the place. Clearly, this is one of the best places to be for golf and I just like talking to the coaches. I never visited and a lot of people told me that was dumb. I liked talking to them and I knew a couple of players that went here so it seemed like a good decision."
Â
2. What was the biggest shock actually being in Stillwater and was it what you expected?
"It was not what I expected, it was more of a home feel and family than I expected it to be. I didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I have so far, I love it now."
Â
3. What is it like being so far from your family and your friends?
"It's different. Obviously, I've been at home for 18 years. But I've travelled a lot, so I know how it is to live alone. But not like this, not this long period of time. Like I said, Karsten Creek, Stillwater and the golf team has treated us like family, so I don't really feel homesick."
Â
4. Do you have any superstitions before you play a round?
"Not really. I say it's a routine not a superstition. I put three tees in my right pocket and two in my left."
Â
5. What do you do when you're not playing golf?
"Not much honestly. I watch a lot of movies and play basketball."
Â
6. What is it like playing in a facility like Karsten Creek to better your game?
"Karsten is huge, the way this course is set up, it's for the elite players. It's not for people to just hack around, and it's what I needed. Karsten is just fantastic. It's always in good shape and it's a great place to practice."
Â
7. What is it like walking down trophy hallway every day?
"It's awesome. Even though you don't look at it every day, but you subconsciously think about who else has walked down these halls. You know there is a history and an aura to this place."
Â
8. OSU is known for its golf program, what does it mean to play at a school where golf is so big?
"It means everything. The donors and everyone looks up to you, and we have great people and great support. It's just awesome, it's been a pleasure."
Â
9. What's it like being a part of the fraternity?
"The coaches and obviously the history behind the place. Clearly, this is one of the best places to be for golf and I just like talking to the coaches.         "It's something else. I've never really played a part of a team per se. I never stayed and played with a team. I love the guys and the team. I love our coaches and I couldn't have asked for better teammates and coaches."
