Cowboy Baseball Schedules Fall Exhibitions With SEC Foes
September 06, 2019 | Cowboy Baseball
STILLWATER — Oklahoma State will face Arkansas and Vanderbilt in fall exhibition games in October.
Coach Josh Holliday's Cowboys are coming off a 2019 season in which they advanced to the fifth NCAA Super Regional in program history and finished one win shy of a College World Series berth. Along the way, OSU compiled a 40-21 record and captured the 33rd conference title in program history by winning the Big 12 Baseball Championship.
The Cowboys will host Arkansas in a 14-inning game on Oct. 12 at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium; the game will begin at noon and admission is free. The Razorbacks are coming off a 46-20 season in which they advanced to the College World Series for the second-straight year.
"We're excited that this fall, just like last fall, we'll be able to challenge our team by playing a very high-level opponent, and this year we have two of those," Holliday said. "With Arkansas, we're excited to welcome coach (Dave) Van Horn and his team — they've got a great ballclub that features some of the top position players in the entire country, along with a very talented pitching staff. It will be a great challenge — we'll get to test our young team and see where we're at. It's on an off weekend for Cowboy football so we hope that our fans looking for something to do will come out and watch us play."
Holliday also plans to hold intrasquad scrimmages at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium during OSU's Homecoming weekend (Oct. 18-20) to give fans more opportunities to watch the Cowboys in action.
OSU will cap its fall schedule with a trip to Kansas City to face defending NCAA champion Vanderbilt in a game at the Kansas City Royals Urban Youth Academy on Oct. 26 at noon. The Commodores went 59-12 a year ago en route to the program's second national title.
Both OSU and Vandy will practice at the academy complex on Oct. 25, with both practices open to the public, and the two teams will also visit Kansas City's Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.
Ticket information for the game against Vanderbilt will be announced at a later date.
"Once again we're excited to match up with Vanderbilt in the fall, and this year it will be neat because it's an off-campus experience in Kansas City over fall break against the defending national champions," said Holliday, whose squad traveled to Nashville last fall for an exhibition weekend at Vanderbilt. "Not only will we get to play a game, but also see the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum and gain some great experiences for our players as well as grow our team by playing one of the top teams in the country."
