"BOONE" Patch To Honor Pickens On Every OSU Uniform In 2019-20
September 27, 2019 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER - Every Oklahoma State athletics team and student-athlete will honor the late Boone Pickens by wearing a "Boone" patch or sticker on their uniforms during the 2019-20 season.
The black patch with "Boone" written in capital letters will honor the 1951 geology graduate who changed the trajectory for Oklahoma State athletics with his generosity.
Throughout his lifetime, Pickens donated nearly $652 million to Oklahoma State University, split evenly among athletics and academics. His gift of $165 million in 2005 remains the single largest gift to an athletics program in NCAA history, and was the foundation for Boone Pickens Stadium and the Oklahoma State Athletics Center.
What's more, Pickens inspired an entire generation of new donors to Oklahoma State, which has transformed the campus and its mission. His generosity extended to health and medical research, geology, entrepreneurship and programs for kids across the nation. The OSU School of Geology is also named in his honor.
Just days after his passing, the Cowboy football team honored Pickens by wearing a "Boone" helmet sticker during its game at Tulsa, and the Cowgirl soccer team followed suit with the patch that fans will see on every OSU uniform for the entire 2019-20 season.
