Two For The Books

As we turn the page to the 2019-20 academic year, we cannot do so without looking back on one of the most decorated two-year stretches in the storied history of the Cowboy Golf program. Head coach Alan Bratton and Co. added the most recent chapter to the program's legacy courtesy of the achievements below.
· Over the past two seasons, the Cowboys won 16 team titles and had 15 individual titles spread among six different players.
· Each member of OSU's starting five earned All-America status in 2018, while four Cowboys earned the distinction this past year. With nine All-America selections over the past two years, OSU now has 185 in program history.
· Over the past two seasons, the Cowboys produced 12 Academic All-Big 12 selections.
· The Cowboys had four Palmer Cup selections over the past two years, with Zach Bauchou and Matthew Wolff representing the U.S. and Viktor Hovland competing for the International side in 2018. This past year, Austin Eckroat competed for the American squad.
· In 2017-18, OSU matched the school record with 10 victories.
· In 2018, the Cowboys became the first No. 1 seed since the implementation of match play in 2009 to win the NCAA title.
· As a junior Hayden Wood earned Academic All-America status. He earned the distinction for the second time in 2019, making him the 13th Cowboy to be honored multiple times.
· Matthew Wolff became the fifth Cowboy to win the Phil Mickelson Award as the nation's top freshman in 2018.
· Wolff was also named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year in 2018.
· Head Coach Alan Bratton was named the Dave Williams Award winner as the national coach of the year in 2018.
· Bratton was also named Golfweek's Men's Coach of the Year as well.
· This past season, the Cowboys produced 11 individual champions, surpassing the program's previous best of nine.
· The Cowboys won the 2019 Big 12 Championship, marking their 55th league title overall and their first since 2011.
· Wolff became the eighth Cowboy to win the Fred Haskins Award as the nation's most outstanding male collegiate golfer.
· Wolff also captured the Jack Nicklaus Award, which is given to the nation's top player. He is the fifth Cowboy to garner the honor.
· Hovland became the fourth Cowboy to win the Ben Hogan Award as the nation's top player taking into account both collegiate and amateur golf.
· The Cowboys swept the national player of the year awards for the first time since Hunter Mahan did so in 2003. Wolff and Hovland were both finalists for all three awards.
· In addition to Hovland being named the Big 12 Player of the Year in 2019, Bratton was named the league's coach of the year.
· The Cowboys produced eight All-Big 12 selections over the past two years as well.
· Zach Bauchou won the Canadian Amateur Championship in 2017 and 2018, making him the 13th player in the 114-year history of the event to repeat as champion.
· Four of the five members of the Cowboy starting five from this past season made at least one professional start as a collegian.
· In August of 2018, Viktor Hovland became the fifth Cowboy to win the U.S. Amateur Championship.
· Wood became the fourth Cowboy in a five-year span to win the Oklahoma State Amateur in 2018, defeating teammate Austin Eckroat in the title match.
· Hovland became the fourth Cowboy to earn the Silver Cup as the Low Amateur at The Masters.
· Hovland would go on to earn Low Amateur status at the U.S. Open as well, finishing with a 4-under total of 280 to break the event's amateur scoring record set by Jack Nicklaus in 1960.
· Wolff set the school's single-season record for wins with six and became the first Cowboy (ninth overall) since Jonathan Moore in 2006 to win the NCAA individual title.
· Wolff also set the school standard for consecutive wins with four in a row to begin the 2018-19 campaign.
· Wolff's 68.69 stroke average from his sophomore year stands as the second-best in NCAA history.
· Wolff and Hovland both surpassed the school's previous single-season stroke average record set by Charles Howell in 2000.
· The duo finished their collegiate careers with the top two career stroke averages in school history (Wolff — 69.44, Hovland —70.48)
· With its third-place NCAA showing in 2019, OSU has now finished in the top five 55 times since the program's inception in 1947.
