Dieringer Tops Gulaev in Yasar Dogu 79-Kilogram Finals

ISTANBUL– Former Oklahoma State wrestler Alex Dieringer is bringing home gold from the Yasar Dogu International at 79 kilograms, with a win over Slovakia's Akhsarbek Gulaev on Saturday morning.
The OSU volunteer assistant defeated 2017 U23 World silver medalist Gulaev, 4-1, scoring a takedown early in the bout, before he picked up one point on a step out and another for a second passivity call on Gulaev.
The 2019 Yasar Dogu International seved as the final ranking series tournament for men's freestyle competition. An estimated 300 of the top competitors from around the world made the trip to Istanbul.
Dieringer had a solid outing at the tournament notching a 54-second, 10-0, win via superiority in his first bout and a four-point shutout in the semifinals before his finals match on Saturday morning.
The victory gave Dieringer his second international tournament win this year with the first coming at the Dan Kolov. He also took third at the Ivan Yarygin before claiming a U.S. Open title and taking out Zahid Valencia in a best-of-three series at the World Team Trials.
Dieringer is slated for a three-bout series with returning World champion Kyle Dake next month in Austin, Texas, looking to claim a spot on his first World Team.
