Fix to Contend for Senior World Team Spot
June 13, 2019 | Cowboy Wrestling
STILLWATER– Oklahoma State wrestler Daton Fix is slated for a best-of-three series against Thomas Gilman at Final X: Lincoln at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Saturday evening. The event marks the last phase of competition to qualify for the U.S. Men's Senior Freestyle team.
Fix earned a spot at the wrestle-off at the U.S. Open in April, where he defeated Gilman, 8-4, in the finals, and outscored the 57-kilogram field at the event, 58-21.
It marks the second-consecutive season the Cowboy has wrestled the series. Fix claimed a spot at Final X: Lincoln in 2018 following a World Team Trials title.
The Cowboy faces a familiar opponent in former Iowa Hawkeye and 2018 World Team member Gilman. Fix dropped two bouts to Gilman in the best-of-three format but ultimately scored a spot on the Junior World Team.
Fix wrapped up his first season competing for the Cowboys with an NCAA runner-up finish, a 34-2 overall record and 12 wins against ranked opponents. He's seeking a spot on his fourth-consecutive freestyle World Team.
The redshirt sophomore is scheduled to wrestle in the second session at the event which begins at 6 p.m. CT on Saturday.
